The starfish story

Once upon a time, there was an old wise man walking on the beach. Suddenly, he saw a boy who was reaching his hands to the beach, picking up something and throwing it into the sea.

He continued to approach and asked: "Good morning! Many I ask what you are doing?"

They young boy paused, and replied, "throwing starfish into the sea."

The old man was a little puzzled, and the young man said "the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in they will die."

The wise man listened and replied, "But, my boy, don't you know that this long beach is full of starfish along the way? You can't make a difference!"

After hearing this the boy bent down, picked up another starfish and threw it into the sea, smiling as he said, "It made a difference to this one."
